Mosaic Quilt Mural

Memorial Quilt Mural - 30th Anniversary Expansion

Quilts have been a tradition at the Mourning Hope Grief Center since the organization’s inception in 1994. As part of the Family Grief Support Group, every child and teen decorates a quilt block in memory of their significant person who has died. The blocks are then stitched together with those designed by other mourners, creating a quilt that symbolizes the shared understanding and support among those who have experienced a profound loss.

The Mosaic Quilt Mural, installed in 2020 as part of Mourning Hope’s capital campaign, honors the individuals and organizations who provide lasting support to Mourning Hope. Like our memorial quilts, the mural signifies the common bonds that emerge when people come together for remembrance, healing and hope. Its location in our Community Room emphasizes the importance of community connections and partnerships that have been the foundation of Mourning Hope’s operations for three decades.

This year, in an incredible show of support, we expanded the mural with 185 new tiles. Dozens of families, organizations and businesses added their names to the mural, providing essential support to sustain Mourning Hope's programs and services. We are honored to serve as a symbol of hope, healing and remembrance for those honored on the mural. And we're grateful to the Lincoln community for sustaining no-cost grief support programs for thirty years!

On September 18th, those who purchased a tile were granted an exclusive opportunity to see the new mural. Thanks to everyone who attended the unveiling and special thanks to Bryce Marker for the lovely event photos! If you'd like to see the new mural in person, please reach out to Hope (hdacosta@mourninghope.org) or Tara (tgregg@mourninghope.org) to schedule a time: 402.488.8989.
